Happy Independence Day
In observation of our Independence we will be closed July 2-4, 2016. God Bless Texas and the United States of America, Happy Independence Day!
On July 4, 1776, We the People threw off the bonds of a tyrannical king and became our own country. While the actual date for the resolution was passed on July 2, 1776, it is on the 4th that we celebrate. Couple of interesting facts concerning this day in history, only one president(Calving Coolidge) has been born on the 4th, while three presidents(Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Monroe) have died on the 4th. Jefferson and Adams resumed their friendship after a very bitter separation, 14 years before their deaths. Adams last words were “Thomas Jefferson still survives”. He was mistaken though, Thomas Jefferson had passed away 5 hours earlier at Monticello. July Fourth was the only day Thomas Jefferson celebrated as a Birthday. Ironically it was the 50th celebration of July Fourth when these two founding fathers passed away.
Take a moment on July 4, 2014 to reflect on the freedoms our founding fathers gave to us. Most of us will be eating, watching parades, enjoying fireworks, and festivals but it is always important to understand why a day is special. Also please be careful this Independence day.
Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
